COM 418 Campaigns in Public Relations and Advertising was honored as the "Outstanding Service-Learning Course" by the college's Volunteer and Service-Learning Center. Instructor Deborah Silverman nominated all 26 students for the award, given May 4. The class spent the spring semester working on a service project to enhance communication between the Communication Department and its 650 registered students.
Three Communication faculty were among 27 instructors teaching service-learning courses. They include Silverman, Meg Knowles, Advanced TV Documentary Production (COM 433), and Ann Liao, Group Communication (SPC 307).
Liao, a speech-communication professor, also was recognized as one of six Faculty Fellows of the center. Journalism professor Annemarie Franczyk was named as one of five instructors-in-training to become Faculty Fellows.
