The Communication Department is beginning a concentration in Sports Communication that will provide students with a department-issued certificate.
The program will include five courses focused on sports journalism, production or public relations. Some of these courses are associated with departmental majors; others are elective courses or required courses that students can tailor with a sports theme, such as feature writing or documentary production.
The Sports Communication program is open to Communication majors who have completed the core courses and have a major GPA of 2.6 or higher.
The concentration is in addition to the major. Depending on their major and when the student opts into the concentration, the program is likely to add two or three courses beyond the 120-credit graduation requirement.
The department will hold an information session on the new concentration during Bengal Pause on Thursday, Sept. 23, in Bacon 115. See FAQ on Sports Communication.
